The builders have left
Turns out it is currently the worse time in quite some years to be doing house renovations given many traders have left the country due to a combination of Covid and Brexit and those who remain being in incredibly high demand due to everyone under the sun also trying to do renovation work. Sadly our renovation works was not an optional extra so we plod along and wait for the company that we engaged to be available. We are lucky enough to have a very kind friend in Birmingham who has hosted us since May!
Problems with extended build work
So turns out house renovations are not meant to get half way through and grind to a halt. The direct replacement roof at the front (rather than the dormer at the rear) has not been completed due to the company ordering our velux windows as part of a larger order that then got cancelled and heaven knows what happened in the 4+ months since so there are various leaks all over the loft space.
There is a covering over the space however this appears only meant to be a very temporary arrangement and has started to fail as shown in the image below!

The water has started to breach the cover near the top, it follows the wooden supports down a ways and at some point drips down directly onto the floor.. but in different places! I guess it will dry eventually..
Problems with old kitchen floors
So the builders have said that they don’t want to use the existing floor structure and build on top of it but rather strip it back and start again as they won’t guarantee the work if we patch it back together. This means doing away with the original kitchen floor and tiles, which is sad, but they are heavily cracked and broken from decades of abuse..

So the floor came up:
And that’s how it looks.
